Terms of Use

Last updated 20 August 2026

The rules for using Recko. We've tried to write them like a human — but they are the actual terms, so they're worth a read.

The short version

Recko recommends places to eat and drink in London. It’s free. Be decent to other people, write honest reviews, and don’t try to game the rankings. We’ll do our best to keep it useful and running, but we can’t promise a place will live up to its recommendation — taste is taste. The detail below controls if there’s ever a disagreement.

Who these are with

These terms are between you and Recko (“we”, “us”). By using Recko you’re agreeing to them. If you don’t, please don’t use the service. You can reach us any time at hi@myrecko.com.

Add the operating company’s name and registered address once one exists — terms that don’t name a contracting party are hard to enforce in either direction.

Who can use Recko

You need to be 18 or over. Recko is about pubs, bars and restaurants, and we don’t want under-18s building profiles around licensed venues. One account per person. Keep your sign-in details to yourself — anything done through your account is treated as done by you.

What you post

You keep ownership of your reviews, lists and photos. By posting them you give us a licence to show, store and share them as part of running Recko — including on public pages and in search results. That licence ends when you delete the content, except for copies already cached or held in backups.

Your reviews must be your own genuine experience. Specifically, don’t:

  • Review a place you have a stake in, or one that’s paid or asked you to.
  • Post fake, paid or incentivised reviews. Beyond being against these terms, this is a criminal offence under the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024.
  • Post anything unlawful, abusive, harassing, hateful, or that identifies someone without cause.
  • Post anything you don’t hold the rights to.
  • Scrape the site, hammer our APIs, or try to reconstruct the rankings in bulk.
  • Impersonate anyone, or use Recko to advertise.

We can remove content or suspend accounts that break these rules. Where we do, we’ll tell you why and you can challenge it by replying to us — we’d rather fix a wrong call than defend it.

Reporting something

There’s a report control on reviews and profiles, and you can block or mute anyone. You can also email hi@myrecko.com. We review reports and act on the ones that need it.

The Online Safety Act 2023 applies to small services too, and its deadlines have already passed (illegal-content risk assessment March 2025, children’s risk assessment July 2025). A service where users post content others can see is likely in scope from day one, so this needs specific legal advice before launch, not after traction.

If a review is about you

Reviews are people’s honest opinions, but if something posted about you or your business is defamatory, email hi@myrecko.com with:

  • Your name and a contact address.
  • Which review it is, and where on Recko it appears.
  • What it says that’s untrue, and why.
  • Whether you’re happy for us to pass your complaint to whoever posted it.

We aim to respond within 48 hours. Depending on the case we’ll either take the review down or put your complaint to the person who wrote it and give them a chance to respond. This follows the process in the Defamation Act 2013 and its regulations.

Copyright and venue information

If something on Recko infringes your copyright — a photo, or text you wrote — email us with a link to it, proof you own it, and confirmation you’re the rights holder or acting for them. We’ll remove infringing material promptly, and we’ll close accounts that repeatedly post other people’s work.

If you run a venue listed on Recko: we build listings from public information and Google’s place data, and some descriptions are drafted with AI. If anything about your venue is wrong, email us and we’ll correct it. We won’t remove genuine customer reviews on request — that’s the point of the site — but factual errors we’ll fix, and you can ask us to take down a listing entirely.

What Recko is and isn’t

Recommendations are opinions — ours, other users’, and a score worked out from your own reviews. They’re not a guarantee about any venue’s quality, safety, hygiene, allergen handling, accessibility or opening hours. Always check directly with a venue for anything that matters, especially allergies and access needs.

Some place information comes from Google and other third parties, and some descriptions are drafted with AI from public information. We work to keep it accurate but we can’t promise it is. If you spot something wrong, tell us.

We’ve no relationship with the venues listed. We don’t take payment for placement, and a venue can’t buy a better ranking.

Availability

Recko is provided as-is and free. We don’t promise it’ll always be available or error-free, and we may change or withdraw features. If we’re discontinuing the service we’ll give reasonable notice so you can export your reviews and lists.

Liability

Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can’t be limited by law. Subject to that, we’re not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for anything that happens at a venue you found through Recko — your visit is between you and them.

If you’re using Recko as a consumer, you keep all your statutory rights, and nothing here affects them.

Have a lawyer review this section specifically. Liability wording is where a template most often fails to do the job it was included for.

Ending it

You can delete your account whenever you like. We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or that we reasonably believe is being used to harm other users.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change is material we’ll tell you in the app rather than relying on you re-reading this page. Carrying on using Recko after that means you accept them.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts there have jurisdiction. If you live elsewhere in the UK you can bring proceedings in your own courts.

Privacy

How we handle your data is in the Privacy Policy, and what we store in your browser is in the Cookie Policy.

Recko uses a couple of cookies to keep you signed in — those have to stay. We’d also like to count anonymous page views so we can see what’s working and fix what isn’t. That bit’s entirely up to you, and saying no changes nothing about how Recko works. What we store
